When to trigger

• "Submitting tomorrow" — last check before uploading a review or progress report to the SAGE portal
• Unsure which strand/route and which files the portal expects
• Confirming abstract/word limits, ORCID, disclosures, and SAGE style compliance
• Verifying the transparency obligations for a critical review that discusses empirical work

Process facts (检索于 2026-06；以官网为准 — re-confirm on the SAGE PiHG pages)

• Publisher / venue. PiHG is published by SAGE, founded 1977 (ISSN 0309-1325 print / 1477-0288 online), as a bimonthly review / state-of-the-art journal in human geography, distinct from Annals of the AAG (primary research), Transactions of the IBG (primary + some review), and Antipode (radical geography). Submission is via the SAGE ScholarOne Manuscripts portal (检索于 2026-06：https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/pihg；以官网为准).
• Does not publish empirical work. PiHG does not publish the results of empirical work or accounts of detailed cases — it publishes critical reviews and conceptual interventions. A piece reporting original data/fieldwork is out of scope (检索于 2026-06；以官网为准).
• Two routes. (1) Commissioned progress reports — short, invited by the editors (you do not self-submit cold). (2) Submitted reviews/interventions in the journal's content strands — Perspectives, Reviews, Opinions, Biographies, Key Publications (检索于 2026-06；以官网为准). Choose the strand before submitting.
• Word & abstract limits. Limits differ by strand and are volatile (待核实) — confirm on the author pages. Reported guides (检索于 2026-06): Reviews ~8,000 words; Perspectives/Opinions ~3,000; Biographies/Key Publications ~5,000; progress reports short (~1,500–4,000 by report type); unstructured abstract ~100–150 words. Treat all as 待核实 and re-confirm.
• Anonymized (double-blind) review. PiHG uses double-anonymized peer review (检索于 2026-06；以官网为准): prepare an anonymized manuscript plus a separate title page with author details; strip identifying self-citation cues.
• ORCID. ORCID iDs are required/expected for authors at submission (检索于 2026-06；以官网为准).
• Ethics & disclosures. SAGE/PiHG follow COPE; authorship and disclosure follow ICMJE-style norms — declare funding, conflicts of interest, and any AI-tool use; AI may not be listed as an author (检索于 2026-06；以官网为准).
• Transparency of the review. A pure review reports no new data. The obligation bites on the scholarly apparatus, positionality, and coverage account (proghg-transparency-and-reproducibility) — not a replication package.
• Open access. SAGE offers a hybrid OA option (Sage Choice) with an APC; OA is not required and the APC is volatile (待核实) — do not assert an amount; confirm on the SAGE page.
• Style. Follow the SAGE / PiHG house style for manuscript format and references; the production editor applies house style at acceptance.

• Confirmed not under review elsewhere; no original empirical results/cases included (scope)

Volatile re-confirms

• Strand word limits, abstract limit, current editors, portal URL, OA/APC, style details — re-checked on the SAGE PiHG pages (检索于 2026-06)

Anti-patterns

• Submitting an empirical paper or detailed case study — PiHG does not publish empirical results
• Self-submitting a "progress report" cold — progress reports are commissioned by the editors
• Choosing the wrong strand or overrunning its word limit (different limits per strand — 待核实)
• Leaving identifying self-citation cues in a double-anonymized manuscript
• Asserting an APC, word limit, or editor name from memory rather than the live SAGE page
• Omitting COPE/ICMJE disclosures (funding, conflicts, AI-tool use)
